Past Artists- Andreas Oberg ( November, 2008)What our members had to say !
"Fantastic
show and clinic! The best
clinic in my opinion since I've been involved
with The Jazz Guitar Society. He is an
amazing player and great communicator. Also very
humble, personable and easy to be around. My
personal thanks to Garrin Hertel for bringing
him to Spokane! Let's get him back one more time
fast before he becomes out of reach for us!!!" "I had a great time at the show on Friday. I was amazed at Andeas' speed and the relaxed fluidity of his lines even at blistering speed. But to be honest, rather than being inspired, I left the concert on Friday thinking I would never really "get it" and that I should just forget it, hang it up and stick to rock-n-roll. I was blown out of the water by his skill and intimidated beyond measure. Had I not pre paid for the Saturday clinic, I probably would have skipped it. I'm so glad I didn't. At the clinic I was able to get close enough to start picking up what he was doing. And though a lot of what he said in terms of re-harmonizing went right over my head, I was able to watch it up close and hear it well enough to give me some ideas to practice. Sunday I took a private lesson from him and things got even better. Mainly because I was able to stop him and point and say "what was that right there?" Not only did he stop and show me what he was doing in slow-mo (that's what I need sometimes) he would also explain the theory behind it and show me the context before and after which would really "wake up" my ear. He's a great teacher. I left the lesson feeling encouraged and inspired and I have a whole new bag of tricks to work on. And though I know I'll never get to Andreas' level, I now feel like there is at least a small hope that one day I can be a "real" jazz player. "
